This is where it all started, as a "regmaaker" for volunteer lifesavers who had pulled duty on the 1st of January. Around 200 lifesavers would take part each year throughout the early 1990s. And then, on Sunday, 1 January 2005, a group of five swimmers rocked up onto Clifton 4th Beach saying that they had heard that a swim was happening. The organiser chaperoned them around the course. The swimmers were so chuffed they wanted to make it a regular thing and monthly 1st Sunday Of the Month Swims was born.
